First up, we have this waterproof dry bag from HEETA. This dry bag is 100% waterproof and includes a layer of double-size ultra-thin PVC, a vacuum seal, and a tightly stitched seam.

So, whether you’re kayaking, paddleboarding, or trekking across watery terrain, the HEETA bag has you covered!

This bag comes in five sizes - 5L, 10L, 20L, 30L, and 40L, so you can pick a size suitable for almost any outdoor adventure - no matter how much luggage you have!

When testing this bag, we LOVED the multifunctional handles - this bag features shoulder straps and a handle, so this can be used as a backpack, shoulder bag, or a hand carry bag.

What’s more, this bag is completely transparent, so you won’t have to worry about rummaging through to find your belongings mid-adventure. Everything is easily accessible yet secure, which is exactly what you need when braving the outdoors.

The HEETA bag also comes with a complimentary waterproof phone case - this case is universally compatible and fits most smartphones up to 7 inches. It’s also completely touch-responsive, so you’ll still be able to use all of your touch screen functions, even with the case on!

We noticed the only fault with this bag during testing is that the dimensions are slightly misleading. To fold the bag up as advised, you’ll need to leave enough room inside - so don’t completely stuff this to the top.

Pros

  • Roll Top Design: Provides your belongings with extra security against the elements.
  • Transparent Design: This makes it easier than ever to see and access your valuables, even with poor visibility.
  • Waterproof Phone Case: This phone case also has a universal fit, so it’ll fit most modern smartphones up to seven inches.

Cons

  • Misleading Dimensions: You have to fold this bag up quite a bit to roll the top. This can limit the internal storage space.

Next up, we have this stunning Aleutian Deck Bag from Watershed. This dry bag is available in two colors, blue and orange, and it comes in one size (19.5” x 14.5” x 4”). If you’re looking for something stylish, functional, and low profile - we HIGHLY recommend this one!

The Aleutian Deck Bag has an 11.5L capacity and weighs a modest 1.7lbs - so you won’t have to carry more than you can handle! This bag also has a number of handy straps which fit most kayaks and canoes - so you can attach this to the front deck and sail in style.

When we tested this bag, we were excited by the waterproof clear map case, which sits at the front of the bag. We also found this handy compartment was the perfect size to store a phone, camera, and other valuables!

This is great if you need to keep high-value items visible or convenient things within arms reach on your travels.

This bag also includes a reusable water bottle holder and a plastic stiffener on the inside of the bag. This plastic stiffener helps the top of the bag ‘dome up’ and maintain its shape, which makes storage a LOT easier.

Of course, this bag is also completely waterproof and held up well during a pretty intense submerging!

You’ll also benefit from 2 Elasto-Lock buckles to store your bilge pump securely. This bag has it all, and we feel it would be perfect for those who enjoy spending plenty of time out on the open water.

Pros

  • Waterproof Map Case: This is convenient and stylish, and it’s also big enough to store other valuables, such as a mobile phone or a camera.
  • Water Bottle Holder: This external storage is convenient and saves space in the main body of the bag.
  • Multiple Secure Straps: So you can carry this bag in multiple ways.

Cons

  • Limited Capacity: Unfortunately, this bag is only available in the 11.5L design, so it may not be suitable for longer adventures that require more luggage.

Now, let’s take a look at the Skog A Kust DrySak. If you like a little color variety, you’ll love this bag! You can choose from various colors and patterns, including mint, black, white, blue, green, camo, yellow, pink, and gray. This is just ONE of DrySak’s major selling points.

This bag is made from waterproof PVC and features welded seams to keep water, mud, sand, and other nasties well away from your valuables. Its exterior is advertised as ‘splashproof’ (despite it having waterproof material), so we thought we’d put it to the test.

We can confirm that the dry bag is 100% waterproof and can hold up well when submerged in water (obviously, we wouldn’t recommend you do this for fun, though!).

You can also purchase the Drysak in two sizes - 10 or 20L, so there’s a size fit for every kind of trip, whether it be a day trip or a weekend excursion.

The Drysak also has a convenient reflective trim around the pocket to increase your visibility and help you retrieve your bag if it goes overboard. The Drysak also has a secure, front zip pocket for external storage if you need to store items in an easy-to-reach place.

We found this to be a little small, though, so you won’t be able to fit a lot here. However, it’s an ideal size for a mobile phone, small torch, or map.

You’ll also benefit from a convenient removable shoulder strap that’s fully adjustable, so you can use it as a tote bag, backpack or attach it to your boat. It’s a win-win!

Pros

  • Reflective Trim: To increase your visibility when you’re exploring in the dark.
  • Front Zip Pocket: Ideal for storing small valuables and accessories.
  • Removable Shoulder Strap: This dry bag can be used as a backpack, tote bag, or be attached directly to your kayak or boat.

Cons

  • No Translucent Pockets: This may not be convenient for accessing accessories in darker conditions or if you’re in a rush.

Stylish, durable, and completely waterproof: let us introduce you to the Vitchelo 30L Dry Backpack. The Vitchelo Dry Back sports an attractive yellow and black design, with the logo and branding sitting proudly near the top of the bag.

This bag is made primarily from Polyvinyl Chloride (vinyl) Tarpaulins, which is exceptionally durable and resistant to almost anything mother nature throws its way.

We found this bag performed flawlessly, even in the heaviest of rain and the chilliest outdoor conditions. So there’s not much this dry bag can’t do!

In addition to its high-quality construction, the Vitchelo Dry Backpack also boasts an elasticated front webbing and mesh net pockets on both sides.

These net pockets aren’t secure enough for your valuables, but they’d be perfect for carrying a water bottle or two.

You’ll also get several versatile straps, including a reinforced hand strap (we barely felt the strain of a heavy load with this strap), chest and waist straps, and a shoulder strap that’s made with breathable material to prevent strain and aid ventilation.

This bag can also be folded up into a compact size when you’re not using it, and it floats well in the water while remaining completely waterproof. There’s even a reinforced vinyl bottom to ensure maximum protection from sand or mud when you need to sit your bag down!

This bag is ideal for almost ANYONE with a sense of adventure. Whether you want a bug-out back, something to take to a water park, or a durable storage method to take on camps, hikes, or a kayaking trip, we thoroughly recommend this one for all of you fellow adventurers.

Pros

  • Reinforced Hand Strap: Great for keeping your hands comfortable when using this as a carry bag.
  • Chest and Waist Straps: This makes this dry bag the perfect backpack for more intense explorations.
  • Reinforced Vinyl Bottom: This will keep your valuables secure and dry, even when you need to put this bag down on the ground.

Cons

  • No Translucent Pockets: This makes it harder to see and access the contents of your bag.

Next up, we have the ALPS mountaineering dry bag from the REI outlet. REI outlet are well-known for their robust and stylish accessories, so even before we bought this, we knew it’d be hard to be disappointed… and we were right!

The ALPS mountaineering dry bag multipack features three dry bags in different sizes and colors. You’ll get a gray 2L, an orange 5L bag, and a 10L blue bag in this pack, and each color makes it easy to distinguish them.

Each bag is made from 500-denier polyester PVC, which is entirely waterproof, and performs well in challenging weather.

They also have secure, welded seams that create an impenetrable water barrier - even if you submerge or float these, there’s no way that water is coming through!

There’s a stylish roll-top closure design and a completely flat bottom that makes the back stand up on its own to keep everything secure.

If you need to fill your bags in a rush or on uneven terrain, you’ll be EXTREMELY grateful for this feature. We found it incredibly useful during testing; these bags didn’t fall over once, even when filled to capacity!

The only real downside to these bags is that they’re pretty heavy and thick. This is great for keeping your valuables secure, but if you’re hiking for long periods, you’ll find the material isn’t breathable enough to keep you moving efficiently enough.

Pros

  • Oval Shaped Bottom: This means your bag will still sit upright and secure, even on uneven ground.
  • Multipack: This set includes three different-sized dry bags, so you’ll get more bang for your buck.

Cons

  • Heavy and Thick: These bags may not be breathable enough to keep you cool and comfortable on long journeys.

Now it’s time for the Mountainsmith dry roll-top duffle bag. We loved testing this bag - it’s arguably one of the most versatile bags on our list, and it performed exceptionally well in tough weather conditions!

This bag comes in a stylish asphalt gray with black handles and yellow and light gray detailing. It also features compression straps to make your bag easier to transport - during testing, we found these to be extremely helpful!

The Mountainsmith Dry Roll-Top Duffle bag is also made from Polyurethane-coated ballistic tarpaulin, so it’s 100% waterproof and incredibly durable.

So, whether you’re out on the water or hiking treacherous terrain on a camping trip, you can rest assured that your valuables will stay safe and secure.

We found that the roll-top worked incredibly well and kept all our valuables from getting drenched. The bag also features an entirely water-resistant front pocket for storing small accessories and valuables.

The haul handles also convert into shoulder straps, so you can use this as a backpack as well as a duffle bag!

Pros

  • Compression Straps: To protect your back and shoulders on long hikes.
  • Front Pocket: Ideal for storing accessories you need to access quickly.
  • Convertible Straps: This makes this bag a versatile, dynamic choice for almost any kind of adventure.

Cons

  • No Translucent Pockets: This will make it harder to see the contents of your bag.

Are you looking for something waterproof, floatable, and practical? Check out this floating waterproof dry bag from MARCHWAY.

This bag comes in a 5L, 10L, 20L, 30L, and 40L design, and it’s available in a range of colors, including black, green, yellow, pink, and orange.

Its thick, 500D ripstop tarpaulin is designed to be as durable as possible (it’s even puncture proof), so you can face even the most extreme of adventures with complete confidence.

Once the top is rolled or buckled down, this bag can float safely on the water, too. We tried this for a few minutes during testing, and just as we hoped, none of the water escaped through and damaged our valuables!

One thing you should note, though, is that MARCHWAY advises against completely submerging this bag for long periods.

Although each sized bag includes handles, these differ depending on the size of the bag. The 5L and 10L models have a single strap, the 20L and 30L models include double straps, and the 40L model includes double non-detachable straps.

Before making a purchase, bear this in mind because the small single strap models won’t be practical for long hikes or intense explorations.

These bags are incredibly durable, can hold a decent amount of weight, and fold up easily for convenient transportation. We love them!

Pros

  • Ripstop Tarpaulin: To provide extra protection against the elements.
  • Can Float on the Water: So you won’t have to worry about your belongings sinking if they go overboard.

Cons

  • Double Straps Not On Every Model: Consider this before buying a smaller model, especially if you need something suitable for long hikes.

Now it’s time for us to have a closer look at the Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bag. This beautifully crafted dry bag comes in four colors - yellow, green, orange, and black, and it has a maximum capacity of 13 litres.

This is a relatively small dry bag compared to other competitors, so it’s not suitable for long expeditions that require a large amount of luggage.

This bag is made from 420D nylon fabric laminated with a rugged TPU coating to give you extra protection from the elements.

This is an impressive level of attention to detail, and we were surprised that the additional coating didn’t affect the weight of the bag. It was still lightweight and easy to carry around!

It also features fully taped seams, a roll-top design, and Hypalon lash loops which are also laminated. These offer another secure attachment point for your bag.

Although this could be used for all sorts of outdoor activities, Sea to Summit recommends this bag for paddling.

Unlike some other competitors, there’s no front pocket on this bag, so you’ll have to store all your valuables directly inside the bag. Although this means they’ll be more secure, they won’t be as easy to access.

Pros

  • Roll-Top Design: This guarantees your belongings unparalleled protection from the elements.
  • Tough TPU Coating: This incredibly durable and reliable material protects well against harsh weather conditions.

Cons

  • 13L Capacity: This is relatively small compared to other dry bags.
  • No Front Pocket: May not be practical for longer trips.

It also comes with a free waterproof phone pouch to keep your phone protected when you’re off adventuring! This phone case is made from ABS and PVC, so rest assured, your phone will stay completely secure and dry.

After something lightweight, reliable, and secure? Enter: the IDRYBAG waterproof dry bag. This backpack comes in a 20L, 30L, and 40L design, and you’ll have a choice of four colors - blue, black, gray, and yellow.

Each bag is made from a 500D outdoor waterproof fabric (heavy-duty PVC), and we LOVED its appearance during testing. It looks extremely well made and secure, and it held up well in tough conditions. This bag truly exceeded our expectations.

Every pressure point of this bag is double reinforced for extra peace of mind. It’s also puncture-proof, scratch-proof, and fully waterproof - with this bag, there’s hardly anything that can come between you and your accessories!

This bag also boasts an impressive honeycomb design. This ergonomic design was created with comfort in mind, and its handles and body are designed to support the shoulders and back when carrying heavy loads.

It also features a stylish reflective strip to give you extra visibility in poor conditions. You’ll also get two zip pockets on the inside and outside. These make storing valuable or personal belongings easier, and each pocket is generously sized.

Rather impressively, this bag still functions exceptionally well in temperatures as low as -38 degrees - there’s nothing you can’t do with the IDRYBAG!

If you order the 30L model, you also get a nice little complimentary 2L IDRYBAG that can be used to provide extra protection for smaller items, such as a phone, wallet, or camera.

Pros

  • Double Reinforced Pressure Points: This provides extra comfort and security when carrying heavy loads for long periods.
  • Reflective Strap: To help increase your visibility in poor conditions.
  • Additional Pockets Inside and Outside: This is useful for protecting high-value items against theft, loss, or damage.
  • Durable Even in Cold Temperatures: This offers some extra peace of mind if you’re adventuring in colder climates.

Cons

  • No Translucent Pockets: This means you’ll have to search for longer to find your accessories, which may be impractical on longer trips.

It’s time for another incredibly dry bag. Let us introduce you to the waterproof medium packing cube by Niteize. This handy little dry bag uses TRU Zip technology to protect your valuables safe and dry.

Conveniently, it also doubles up as a compression bag - this means you can store larger and heavier items and pack them up tight for easier transportation!

When testing this product, we could store jackets and other thick items of clothing in this bag with minimal hassle.

We also found the translucent front a BIG selling point - this helped us to see everything on the inside with ease, so we didn’t have to rummage around our bag for hours trying to find smaller accessories.

The packing cubes seal also includes welded seams for extra protection against mud, water, sand, and other debris. According to Niteize, this bag can also withstand water immersion for up to 30 minutes at a one-meter depth. That’s pretty impressive!

Unfortunately, though, this dry bag only features one carry handle at the top of the bag. There are no external attachments to add extra handles, so this dry bag would work best as additional protection for smaller items inside a larger dry bag. The Niteize packing cube weighs just 3oz and measures 6.9” x 10.3” x 3.2”.

Pros

  • Can Withstand Immersion: Niteize claim that this bag can handle immersion for 30 minutes at a 1 meter depth - helpful to know if your belongings ever go overboard!
  • Translucent Front: Saves you rummaging through the main compartment to find important items.
  • Can Be Used as a Compression Bag: This is great if you need to condense larger items to a smaller size.

Cons

  • Limited Handles: This makes this packing cube unsuitable for use as your primary dry bag; you’ll probably need to use it for extra protection inside a larger bag.

As we approach the end of our round-up of the 13 best dry bags, let’s take a look at this versatile companion from Luxtude. This stylish dry bag comes in  5L, 10L, 20L, and 30L options, and you’ll have three color choices: yellow, blue, and camo blue.

The Luxtude dry bag is made from 500D PVC material for unparalleled durability, and its classic roll-top closure design is guaranteed to keep your belongings secure. We found the handles on this bag to be incredibly convenient during testing.

The Luxtude dry bag features a large carry handle at the top (which is generously padded) and two adjustable and removable shoulder straps.

So, whether you’re kayaking or boating and need to grab your bag in a rush, or you’re off on a long hike or sail and need everything strapped to your back, this bag lets you do both!

It also has a zip front pocket suitable for storing smaller items that you need to reach quickly, which we love.

There’s also a convenient side handle to carry your goods around with, too. Luxtude has also thrown in not one but TWO waterproof phone cases! These measure 6.6 inches each, so they’re compatible with most modern smartphones.

Each case also has a secure seal lock and is touch-friendly, so you can use your phone safely on the water without having to worry about it getting damaged.

Pros

  • Multiple Handles: This makes the Luxtude dry bag suitable for almost any adventure, whatever the terrain or duration.
  • Roll Top Design: This is one of the most reliable design choices for dry bags, so you can rest assured that your valuables will stay safe from the elements.
  • Front Zip Compartment: For easy access to your accessories on the go.

Cons

  • No Reinforced Straps on Smaller Bags: If you’re carrying heavier loads in the smaller bags, you may feel uncomfortable after a while.

Last but not least, let’s finish off our round-up with this modest yet functional dry bag from Unigear. This dry bag features a familiar barrel-style design with roll-top closure, similar to some of our other product mentions.

You can buy the Unigear waterproof dry bag in several sizes, including 2L, 5L, 10L, 20L, 30L, and 40L. There’s also a LOT of color variations out there, with options ranging from black and yellow, to green, blue, orange, and more.

Now for the main specs. This bag is 100% waterproof and made from 500D PVC, which offers reliable protection against water, dust, dirt, and sand.

Its seams are also impressively welded - during testing, we were immediately impressed with the construction of this bag. You’ll notice almost instantly how well put together it is, and the quality of its anti-leak and anti-tear technology is evident from the get-go.

Each handle on this bag is also reinforced to prevent stress and keep you comfortable. You can use either the carry handle at the top or the two adjustable shoulder straps on the back (which include extra padding on the 30 and 40L bags for your comfort).

This makes the Unigear dry bag ideal for more extended explorations; even when carrying heavier loads, the straps remained comfortable and breathable, so we could keep moving without feeling weighed down or sweaty!

P.S - you’ll also get a free waterproof phone case that measures six inches and is touch-friendly, perfect for using your phone outdoors in harsh conditions!

Pros

  • Top and Shoulder Handles: So you can wear or carry the Unigear dry bag in multiple ways.
  • Free Waterproof Phone Case: This is a convenient little extra that’ll save you a few dollars and fares well in challenging weather.
  • Multiple Sizes Available: So you can find the right size bag, whatever the adventure.

Cons

  • May Not Be Suitable for Submersion: Although this bag is waterproof, Unigear doesn’t say whether it can handle a good dunking. For the sake of your valuables, it’s probably not worth trying.

Best Dry Bags Buying Guide

As you’ve now seen, there are plenty of high-quality dry bags on the market. Some are big, and some are small, some are floatable, and others? Not so much.

Now we’ve given you plenty of options to choose from, you may be wondering - what’s the right dry bag for me? Each dry bag comes with its own unique selling points, but depending on your needs, there are some specifics you’ll need to look out for before making a purchase.

So you can go off and buy in confidence, we’ve compiled a list of the most important things you need to look for in a dry bag and why. So let’s take a closer look below.

13 Best Dry Bags

Bag Size

The capacity of most dry bags is listed in liters. As you’ve seen, dry bags are available in all shapes and sizes, with most capacities ranging from 2 liters up to 40 liters. So, how do you know which size is right for you?

2L: These are usually the smallest dry bags you’ll find, although some sell at as little as 1L. These bags are ideal if you’re just looking for something to store your keys, phone, or cash. They can be attached to a backpack or belt for quick access or stored in a larger bag for safekeeping.

5L: 5L dry bags are one of the most popular sizes on the market. These bags are still small enough to strap to a backpack or a belt, and they can also be rolled up and compressed for more accessible storage.

For example, in a 5L bag, you could expect to fit items such as a camping stove, a first aid kit, and other bulky accessories.

10L: 10L bags are ideal if you need something big enough to store overnight clothes. There’s are big without being overbearing or heavy, making them an excellent choice for longer adventures that are still physically active but require more storage.

You’ll want to opt for a 10L with shoulder straps - handles may strain your joints if you’re carrying items for long periods.

20L: Although 20L is one of the larger capacities on the market, they can still be rolled down and compressed.

So, these are ideal if you want to guarantee enough storage space for your valuables but don’t want to be weighed down by excess, unused space. These would be perfect for day hiking or overnight adventures.

30L: If you’re wondering how large a 30L bag is, it’s around the size of your average school backpack. These are an absolute must-have for longer trips, especially camping. You can expect to fit all essentials comfortably inside and still have a little room for extras.

Make sure you opt for a 30L with compressions straps or reinforced straps if you’re carrying this around all day, though. Those shoulders may start to feel the strain after a while, especially if you’re storing heavy items.

40L: 40L dry bags are the largest option on the market. If you’re going on a long exploration away and need a reliable bag to store the majority of your essentials, a 40L dry bag is a must.

You could store multiple items in one of these - even a tent would fit comfortably in here, with plenty of room for other small essentials.

Roll Top

The roll-top is the most common design for dry bags. A roll-top closure does exactly what it says on the tin - instead of a zipper, you simply roll the top of the bag a few times and secure it with a buckle or a strap.

Roll tops are one of the most reliable and secure designs and offer maximum protection against heavy rainfall. Once rolled, they form a tight seal to protect against the elements.

Roll tops are usually a given with dry bags; however, if you see a model with a zip top, just make sure it’s entirely waterproof for peace of mind.

Translucent Pockets

Translucent pockets aren’t a necessity, but they’re certainly helpful. If you need a large dry bag but still want to ensure easy access to your valuables and accessories, we recommend opting for a dry bag with a translucent (and waterproof) pocket at the front of the bag.

Most translucent pockets are generously sized, so you can expect to fit items such as phones, cameras, and torches in them.

If you want to remove the hassle of rummaging through your bag completely, you could opt for a 100% translucent dry bag. These will make retrieving your items on long adventures much easier.

Reflective Prints

Whatever the adventure, your safety should be your priority. Even if you’re not planning to hike or sail in darkness, you should always prepare for the unexpected. Many dry bags now come with reflective prints around the trim, or on the main body of the bag.

These are effective at increasing your visibility in low light conditions, and we recommend them for any and all adventures.

If you don’t want to ruin the appeal of your bag with a reflective strip, you could always buy an external clip-on strip and attach it to a buckle. These external strips are available at most reputable retailers.

Floatable

If you’re kayaking, sailing, or canoeing, you’ve probably ALWAYS got that nagging fear that one day, you (or your belongings) will go overboard. It may have even happened to you before.

In many cases, these instances aren’t life threatening, but is there ANYTHING worse than having to retrieve a bag full of drenched valuables?

You should opt for a floatable dry bag to protect your accessories from water damage. If you happen to be swept off course by a strong current and your bag flies off the side, you won’t have to worry about diving off after it.

Integrated Attachment Points

One of the most important things you should look for in any drybag is integrated attachment points. These can be D rings or military-style loops, and they’re a necessity if you want to strap your bag to a boat, or attach other smaller items directly to the bag.

Duffle or Backpack?

This is one of the biggest questions - duffle bag or backpack? There’s no definitive answer here, and your choice will depend on the sorts of activities you’re doing. If you’re frequently out on the river, you may prefer a duffle style bag.

These are easier to throw on the boat in a hurry. However, if you want something you can keep with you at all times, a backpack with shoulder straps may be a better option.

They both have their pros and cons, however, backpacks tend to be favored more by hikers or those on long trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Dry Bags Really Waterproof?

Most dry bags are 100% waterproof and made with durable, heavy-weight fabric. However, if a product is considered water-resistant instead of waterproof, it may not be suitable for submerging.

What Is The Difference Between a Wet Bag and a Dry Bag?

Wet bags are often made with Polyester or Polyurethane laminated knit fabric (PUL).  Wet bags are made to hold wet items, such as swimsuits or soiled diapers. Dry bags are made to protect valuables inside the bag from getting wet.

What Can I Use Instead of a Dry Bag?

Plastic bags can work well if you can’t afford a dry bag. However, they often aren’t as durable as dry bags and cannot contain heavy items.

Will a Dry Bag Hold Water?

If you need to increase your onboard water storage on a long trip, you can use a dry bag to store and hold water.
