I’ve been terrible at writing posts for the last few months, but it is not out of laziness. I have been hard at work, getting The Appalachian Trail Girl’s Guide ready for print. For those of you that have been following along for the past few years, this is the same story that I have had available via ebook. I edited it and updated loads of the information. I have received quite a bit of feedback on the original version, which I took into account when revising the second edition.
Here’s my back of the cover blurb for my book.
“After graduating from college and struggling to find direction in adulthood, Megan embarks on a six-month hike along the Appalachian Trail. Having previous backpacking experience, she is over-confident and ready to embrace the beauty of the trail, not anticipating the difficulties that await. From the elation of meeting eccentric individuals and standing on top of mountains to the pains of feeling like giving up in Maine, it is an unexpected adventure.
One common theme during Megan’s hike was that there were far fewer women on the trail than men. Through sharing her experiences, she hopes to encourage and inspire other females to get on the Appalachian Trail and feel confident in their backpacking abilities.
Both a planning guide and a memoir of Megan’s thru-hike, in this book you will find:
- Advice and first-hand knowledge on being a solo, female, long-distance hiker
- Budget-friendly gear and logistical planning
- Mental preparation for the highs and lows of thru-hiking
- The best section hikes and must visit locations for each state
- Stories from Megan’s journey along the trail”

I’m stoked to finally have a printed book in my hand that I wrote. It’s so satisfying. And also terrifying. Terrifying because it’s a thing I created and now it is out there in the world, outside of my control. Is this how parents feel?…
I’m veering off topic though.

Ahhh! I read your book before my section hike and it was amazing. I had three months to hike and wanted to knock out a lot of the trail, and am doing the rest later this year. I brought my kindle along with me for entertainment, so whenever it was rainy or lonely, I would curl up in my tent and read what you had to say about all of those things and it was great.
Thanks Savannah!! This comment makes me so happy.
